WINSC – Women in Seafood

WINSC – Women in Seafood, held their yearly face-to-face board meeting followed by the AGM in Hervey Bay, Queensland on 29th October 2009.  This saw the election of a board with some existing, some new members and a new President, Kylie Paulsen.

On Friday 30 October 2009, a workshop was held to identify priority issues for women in the seafood industry and a training skills gap analysis.  This was funded by DAFF ( Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Australia) and saw approximately 35 participants from Australia and New Zealand participate.  The draft report on the outcome of this workshop has just been released and is under consideration  by the WINSC board at present.  The report will be available on www.winsc.org.au once they are finalised.

There is enough funding to allow a two day training workshop in 2010 to be attended by the participants and WINSC members to meeting the training needs identified and prioritised by the report.

The findings will tentatively be presented by WINSC at the Seafood Directions conference in Melbourne on 14-16 April 2010 (to be confirmed in the conference content).
