Preamble
The Women’s Industry Network Seafood Community in association with the FRDC invites applications from WINSC Full Members for a scholarship. With funding from the FRDC on behalf of the Australian Government, a fund has been established to provide an annual scholarship of $6000. The scholarship is to enable a WINSC member to pursue studies and/or training, and/or other development activity including conference attendance, and may cover the costs incurred for education and associated travel and accommodation. Applications will be received and considered by a selection panel appointed by WINSC (see selection process).

Background
The WINSC constitution has the following objectives:

  1. Recognise and enhance the skills of seafood women,
  2. development of effective partnerships with government agencies and other industry stakeholders,
  3. Take a professional approach to all activities and relationships with other   stakeholders,
  4. Create a supportive environment to ensure women of the fishing and seafood industry reach their potential,
  5. actively encourage the involvement of seafood women,
  6. Provide community education on all aspects of the seafood industry,
  7. Create a positive image of the seafood industry through the promotion of the benefits of the industry to the community.


In order to assist WINSC members with training and professional development the FRDC are supporting WINSC to establish a scholarship fund.

Purpose
The scholarship is offered to offset travel and/or education costs to enable the successful applicant to

  • undertake career development; and/or
  • to attain a formal qualification; and/or
  • to acquire new skills/knowledge  

Eligibility
Full Female Members of WINSC may apply.  One annual scholarship to a value of $6,000 + GST is offered, tenable for 12 months from date of the award, unless additional time is negotiated with WINSC.

Application and Selection Criteria
Applicants are required to submit a detailed proposal.

The proposal should include;

  • Where and when the activity is to take place
  • The intended outcomes of such activity
  • A detailed budget of costs to be incurred
  • Evidence that the scholarship would be of benefit to the applicant, WINSC and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation
  • Two references to support the application

The applications will be  assessed by a nominated selection panel, comprising  WINSC Directors, one representative from FRDC and one independent (e.g. from Office of Women or similar).

Obligations to WINSC Post Scholarship Period
The successful applicant of the WINSC Professional Development Scholarship is obliged to meet any or all of the following requirements on behalf of WINSC.

  • Submit a maximum 2,000-word report to the WINSC Executive within one month of the completion of their Scholarship. This report should detail the experiences incurred during the project.
  • Produce an article of appropriate content for submission to the Fisheries Research and Development News (FISH) with minimal editing requirements from the WINSC Board.
  • At the discretion of WINSC, present at the WINSC National Conference on the topic studied and its application to the seafood community in Australia.
  • Meet all media obligations that may be set out by the WINSC Executive Committee to promote the FRDC WINSC Scholarship, membership and the seafood industry in Australia.
